ESSENTIAL, FRAGRANCE AND PERFUME OILS INFORMATION
Essential Oils (Aromatherapy)
Aromatherapy is the use of select fragrant substances in lotions and inhalants to positively affect mood and promote health. Aromatic essential oils may enrich the quality of life, when used in beauty products, for therapeutic reasons or pleasure, or to add a pleasing scent to the home.
Essential oils are a class of volatile oils (oils that evaporate readily). A percentage of all medicinal herbs enhance their healing properties with essential oils. Although formally classified as oils, they are not greasy, have a consistency closer to water, and do not leave a permanent mark on paper.
Essential oils are extracted from flowers, leaves, roots, grasses, wood, fruit, seeds, berries, nuts, gums, and bark. The oils are found in tiny oil glands or sacs, which are concentrated in various parts of the plant.
Despite the fact that scientists have been able to reproduce substances exhibiting a similar fragrance to essential oil, they are unable to synthetically reproduce anything offering the same therapeutic effect.
The Steam and Water distillation process is the most common method used today for the extraction of essential oils from plants. Essential Oils have historically been considered the purest form of aromatic plant material because they are extracted without solvents. Also, they are the most frequently used for skin-care purposes. The Cold Expression Process is used to extract essential oils from citrus fruits.
Because the various plants differ considerably with regard to the quantity of essential oils they yield, it is understandable that this will influence the market price of each essential oil.
Fragrance Oils
Fragrance Oils are perfume oils. They are not considered Essential Oils. Essential Oils are comprised of 100% oils derived from various plant materials, such as trees, bark, flowers, fruit, grasses etc. Fragrance oils are manufactured oils and may contain some essential oil. These cosmetic fragrance oils are highly concentrated undiluted oils and are too strong to be applied directly to the skin. They have a wonderful long lasting aroma and are incorporated into perfumes, body lotions, body creams, soaps, and more.
Perfume Oils
These unique and aromatic fragrance oils are highly concentrated and are made from the oils and resins of flowers, plants, roots, and trees, and are jojoba based. There are no petroleum-based ingredients, alcohol, harmful chemicals, or animal products contained in these fragrances. They are never tested on animals. Scents are based on ancient formulas used hundreds of years ago in North Africa and the Middle East.
